If you have rented shared hosting, it is not enough to monitor only UPTIME, that is, whether your website (on the server) is physically up and the connection is working. You have to monitor how fast the site itself loads. That time depends on many factors:
- the configuration of the website itself
- the size of the files
- the load on the server
- the configuration of the server itself
- the number of visits at that moment
- all of that combined with the other websites hosted on the same server
- and also on the response time.
How can you monitor response time? There are, of course, various online tools, and this time too I chose Pingdom. Since I was not able to set up one website with each of our (and this time also foreign) hosting providers, I decided to monitor the hosting companies' own websites - guided above all by the logic that providers will secure the best for their own site. To be fully objective, as a parallel I took the top 5 foreign providers and ran the same measurement on them.
Here are the results for the TOP 5 leading hosting companies in the world:

The response time on the chart is the average server response time over one week, measured at one-minute intervals from different locations around the world.
HostGator certainly deserves praise, with an average time of 139 ms.
Now that we know what response time is, how it can be measured and what values were measured for well-known hosting providers, it is time to show the average response time of the websites of Serbian hosting companies. The chart is sorted in descending order.
As an addition to this chart: the measurement ran for one week, the measuring interval was 1 minute, and the probe servers were all over the world.
Analyzing the results, the winner certainly has to be singled out: Extreme prohosting, with a result of 231 ms. Comparing the results, the general conclusion is that, as far as response time goes, domestic hosting companies can compete with the best in the world. If you look at the chart a little more closely, you will see that almost all of them (except the last two - Loopia and HostingSrbija.com) have a better time than fourth-placed GoDaddy, that is, they can match the world's TOP 3 companies (at least as far as response time is concerned).
Near the end, I would point out once more that you should distinguish between response time and the time needed to load a web page. If you want to check page loading speed, my recommendation is the free tool http://tools.pingdom.com - have a play with it :) .
